PhD means Doctor of Philosophy (it’s the wrong way round I know but that’s because it comes from the latin “Doctor Philosophiae”). At Oxford and Cambridge it’s not called PhD but a DPhil.

It’s original Greek meaning is “love of wisdom” 🙂

      Hey,

The letters mean doctors degree and stand for Doctor of Philosophy (although the letters are in the wrong order). Philosophy refers to a love of wisdom, so somebody with a PhD likes to learn and spent a lot of time in school and university.
