      Hi x_sassy_scientist_x (what a name!),

It’s great that you blog. I’d liked to have seen it! Blogging is actually a really good skill as it helps you be able to communicate your interests in a way that is engaging to other people. It’s great that you are developing this skill now – it will definitely help you no matter what job you do when you’re older but it is really important for scientists who have to communicate their work!

My blog is about the work I do – so medical research and scientific evidence. You can check it out here: http://davidnunan-uk.com. And if you want to leave comments that would be great (you can tell me if I’m any good at communicating what I do!) 🙂

I teach medical students and doctors something called “evidence-based medicine” and “epidemiology”. EBM is a way of practicing medicine where doctors and health workers use the best available scientific evidence to help their patients when they are deciding about treatments or tests.

Epidemiology is basically the study of disease in groups of people. The fact that we know smoking causes lung cancer comes from the branch of science I teach (and do) called epidemiology.

The age group I teach to is actually university and older – so 17/18 years and above. But I have been into schools to teach people your age about EBM and I am a STEM ambassador so will hopefully be doing more of this. I think it’s really important that you guys know how to understand scientific evidence so that you can make the best decisions about your health.

      Thanks for the question.
