This is a great question, and I think it’s important to talk about the fact that Physics is seen as a boy’s thing. I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone be negative about the fact that I’m a Physicist, although some people can be quite surprised – I guess they think I don’t look like a Physicist.
Nobody at work has ever been negative about me being female and although the company I work for hardly hires any women, I think that’s mainly because not many women apply for jobs with them. I think the main barrier for getting women into science is convincing girls at school that they can be scientists too!
I really want to get more women into Science so thanks for asking this question!
Hi Izzy
I’ve never noticed any negativity. There are probably more women in biology than in some of the other sciences though. I completely agree with Kate, we need to show more girls at school that they can be scientists too.
