Scientists discover and invent new things all the time. Almost everything around you would once have been discovered by a scientist.
Living in a house – someone had to figure out how to stop it from falling down.
Have you ever taken medicine – a scientist would have learned what makes makes people feel ill and found a cure for it
Watch TV – science
Own a phone or a computer – science
Even a lot of the food you eat has something to do with science – learning how to grow the food, how to make it taste best, how to transport it from where it was grown to the supermarket.
There probably isn’t any aspect of your life that hasn’t been affected by science!
You will be affected or interacting with science in all the things you do on a daily basis. For example, before you even get to school look at how much science there is:
Sleeping in your bed: scientists would have worked out the best materials to keep you comfortable but that are also safe (from fire)
Brushing your teeth: there is something called fluoride in the water and toothpaste that scientists worked out was good for your teeth
Eating breakfast: nutrition scientists would have worked out the best ingredients to go into you breakfast cereal to make it nutritious but also taste nice.
That’s before we even look at the science in your phone, your car and the computers you use when you get to school!
